Africa's Singapore
THE conference room resembles an old “Star Trek” set, with swivel chairs, laptops on desks and headsets that switch between Kinyarwanda and other tongues. Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s president, sits in the captain’s chair. His technocratic ministers sit nearby. When the talk turns to business, Mr Kagame becomes animated. It is his passion—he says he reads business case studies in bed. He wants to turn Rwanda into the Singapore of central Africa. He is nothing if not ambitious.Rwanda is best known for the genocide that claimed at least 500,000 lives in 1994. It has been peaceful since then, but lacks nearly all of Singapore’s advantages. Singapore has the world’s busiest port; Rwanda is landlocked. Singapore has one of the world’s best-educated populations; Rwanda’s middle class was butchered in 1994. Singapore is a gateway to China; Rwanda’s neighbours are “less than ideal”, as a recent report from the Legatum Institute, a British think-tank, put it. Uganda is corrupt; Burundi a basket-case; Congo worse.Yet Rwanda has one huge advantage: the rule of law. No African country has done more to curb corruption. Ministers have been jailed for it. Transparency International, a watchdog, reckons Rwanda is less graft-ridden than Greece or Italy (though companies owned by the ruling party play an outsized role in the economy). “I have never paid a bribe and I don’t know anyone who has had to pay a bribe,” says Josh Ruxin, one of the owners of Heaven, a restaurant in Kigali, the capital. We have been blacklisted...
The business community has asked the government to urgently organise a stakeholders' meeting to look into the blacklisting of Tanzania over claims of money laundering. The business leaders are anxious to see a quick solution to the crisis, which has seen the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) blacklist the country for failing to meet international standards of doing business. They asserted that the international money-laundering watchdog's action could have serious business consequences for the country. Financial transactions to and from Tanzania would, for example, be subjected to more intense scrutiny.
Blacklisting would make it even harder for the government to woo more prospective foreign investors and business persons.

7 Worst Aid Ideas..
I couldnt Agree More.
Maybe their hearts were in the right place. Maybe not. Either way, these are solid contenders for the title of “worst attempts at helping others since colonialism.”
1. One million t-shirts for Africa
2. TOMS Buy-One-Give-One
…dumping shoes in places where people might otherwise be employed to make them.
3. Machine gun preacher
Problems with Sam Childers, the machine gun preacher, are so much more straightforward.
It’s dangerous and insane.
4. 50 Cent ransoming children in Somalia
So let’s break that down.
A. If you Like Fifty’s Facebook page — without even buying the drink — a child, presumably in Somalia, gets fed.
B. We can infer that there is a pot of dollars somewhere earmarked for feeding needy children. Two million meals worth of feeding if you count the million Like-meals plus the potential million bonus.
C. Those meals, while they could be donated, and have presumably been budgeted for, willnot be, except to the extent that you give Street King props online.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is called extortion.
5. Donor fund restrictions
6. Making food aid the same colour as cluster munitions.
Left is delicious. Right will kill you. You try tell the difference if you can’t read English and live out in the steppes.
7. Making USAID a foreign policy tool
In 1990, on the eve of the first Gulf War, Yemeni Ambassador Abdullah Saleh al-Ashtal voted no to using force against Iraq in a security council session. US Ambassador Thomas Pickering walked to the Yemeni Ambassador’s seat and retorted, “That was the most expensive No vote you ever cast.” Immediately afterwards, USAID ceased operations and funding in Yemen.

The miniskirt March
Attacked for wearing mini's? sounds like Kkoo and Tandale to me
Women in Johannesburg took to the streets to march in protest of two women who were allegedly attacked at the Noord Street taxi rank in December for wearing mini-skirts. The South African Press Association reported that the two women were taunted by a group of men who groped them, pulled their clothing and took photos of them with their mobile phones.Nerver, attack a woman in a mini....we love our minis...
The protest was organised by the Women’s League of the African National Congress (ANC) who said that the objective of the march was to end, “patriarchal views still entrenched in parts of South Africa society”, and that women should be able to wear whatever they wish without fear of attack or victimization of any kind.
At the march, Women’s Minister Lulu Xingwana threatened to close down the taxi rank if such harassment continued.

Sub Saharan Africa's biggest Middle Class..Nairobi
lol...Nairoberry
Downtown Nairobi is in stark contrast to the images of famine and war that often represent coverage of Africa.Kenyas middle class has grown to 10 percent of the urban population — or 1.5 million people — making Kenya home to one of the largest middle class populations in sub-Saharan Africa.Government deregulation stimulated economic growth and turned Nairobbery — a former nickname for the city — into a booming economic center. Nairobi reflects this trend with multinational businesses, towering office buildings and a growing middle class.Worldfocus correspondent Martin Seemungal and producer Yuval Lion report from Nairobi on middle class Kenyans, who are educated, optimistic and upwardly mobile.
